Senior guard Maralene Zwarich led the Northeastern women’s basketball team to a weekend sweep of Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) opponents at home. Her efforts included a 25-point performance in the Huskies’ 87-80 victory over Virginia Commonwealth on Friday. She was also a perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line, helping her earn The Northeastern News Player of the Week honors.

Two days later she notched her 12th career double-double when she grabbed a career-high 17 rebounds and tallied 12 points, helping lead the Huskies to a 58-54 win over Georgia State.

“We’re on a winning streak, which carries some weight,” said Zwarich, who was also honored as the CAA Co-Player of the Week. “The big thing we were talking about was just to protect our house; we had been letting teams beat us by 30 at home, and that was the theme over the weekend.”

The win gives the Huskies a 3-6 record in CAA play (7-11 overall).

“All along we’ve known we have the potential,” Zwarich said. “So far, when we play good it’s very good, and when we play bad it’s very bad. We need to find a medium.”
