Letter to the Editor: Chihuahua, Colonel poor substitutes for Barnyard

I was bewitched, bothered and bewildered at NU’s decision to oust Barnyard Chicken from the Curry Center and replace it with a Taco Bell (“Taco Bell to oust Barnyard Chicken,” Jan. 25). Students say they want healthy food, so we get a Taco Bell? Who needs another Taco Bell, anyway? I wouldn’t want to sit next to someone who had a few too many Extra Value Meals in class.

Something smells fishy here, and it ain’t the chalupas!

Once again, NU shows its insensitivity toward the “little guy.” The little-shop-that-could gets passed over for the big bucks. What kind of cut does the university get for each taco sold? What’s next, Wal-Mart?

Even more alarming is the public’s total lack of a clue as to what is really going on here. What we’re witnessing isn’t just a random change for the sake of variety. No, what we’re seeing is the systematic destruction of a small business by an 800-pound chicken disguised as a chihuahua.

My beef isn’t with beef. It’s about chicken – namely KFC. What does the Colonel have to do with this, you ask? Well, who would want to see all the chicken competition put out to pasture? Who would want to drive out anyone who might take some of his or her feed? Well, who do you think owns Taco Bell? It’s all KFC, and KFC doesn’t want you to have a choice. If you want chicken, you’re going to have to get it from KFC.

There’s a grassy knoll, all right. And it’s filled with chickens.
