Player of the Week: Dennis McCauley

Freshman forward Dennis McCauley of the men’s hockey team had a strong performance in a two-game series against Hockey East rival Providence College on Thursday and Friday. He scored in both contests, including the game winner in a 2-1 Northeastern win on Thursday night. The Northeastern News Player of the Week scored the Huskies’ lone goal a day later, splitting the series against the 24th ranked team in the nation.

“It was good to win, especially after the Beanpot,” McCauley said. “All season we’ve wanted to win the Beanpot, and now that won’t happen, so now we have to make sure we win to get back up to UMass Lowell in the standings.”

Currently, the Huskies are ninth in Hockey East play and six points behind UMass Lowell and UMass-Amherst, which are tied for seventh.

A two-game set March 3 to March 4 with cross-town rival Boston University may stand between the Huskies and a playoff spot.

“BU is one of the hottest teams in the country right now, and it would feel good to beat them and spoil their momentum,” McCauley said.
