Player of the Week: Marisa Hourihan

Senior women’s hockey goalie Marisa Hourihan stopped 42 of 45 shots in a 4-3 win over BU on Feb. 4, and then 44 of 48 shots in a 4-3 loss in the opening round of the Beanpot against Boston College on Feb. 11.

The win over BU ended the Huskies’ nine-game losing streak. The Northeastern Player of the Week has witnessed a change in the team’s approach since an injury to junior forward captain Amy Goodney.

“Ever since we lost Goodney, who was the glue that held this team together, we’ve been playing more like a team than individuals,” Hourihan said.

The senior holds the records for most saves in a game (57 on Jan. 25, 2005 in a loss against Providence and again on Feb. 4 losing against New Hampshire) and career saves with 1,235.

Hourihan said she would gladly trade a few of those saves for another statistic.

“It was more of the win that mattered [against BU],” Hourihan said. “I wish I could be cocky about the saves, but I can’t, because we [usually] don’t win.”
