Player of the Week: Shawn James

As the men’s basketball team, on a four game winning streak, prepare to leave for the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) tournament in Virginia, sophomore forward Shawn James is preparing the way he has for every other game this season.

“It is all the same,” he said. “We watch film, go over [James Madison’s] plays and don’t think that just because we have beat them twice this season we will definitely win again.”

On Friday, the Huskies will face the Dukes, a team NU beat 86-83 on the road and 77-55 at Matthews Arena. In the home game, James earned his fourth career triple-double with 17 points, 14 rebounds and 11 blocks.

James, The Northeastern News Player of the Week for the second time this season, is coming off his ninth and tenth double-doubles of the season. In the Huskies’ 86-70 win over Towson Saturday, the Brooklyn, NY native had 23 points and 11 blocks. Northeastern beat Delaware 80-66 Thursday with James scoring 15 points and blocking 10 shots. It was the first pair of back-to-back road wins for NU since the Mohegan Sun Classic in November.

“I am not doing anything differently out there,” James said. “I just have a better feel for the game every time I am out there.”
