CEO of General Electric to speak at commencement

The Board of Trustees has selected Jeffrey Immelt, chairman and chief executive officer of General Electric, as the keynote speaker for this year’s commencement.

The university chose Immelt because of his ability to run a complex organization, said Kay Onan, special assistant to the president. The choice also reflects Northeastern’s co-op partnership with GE.

“He has been recognized in the business community as someone of great merit,” Onan said.

Immelt has been CEO of GE since September 2001, and Financial Times named him “Man of the Year” in 2003.
