Best celebrity to visit campus: Eddie Griffin

It looks like students prefer comedy over pornography.

Eddie Griffin beat out Ron Jeremy in a tight race to be named this year’s best celebrity to visit campus.

Selling out Blackman Auditorium in September, the actor/comedian /dancer’s hour-long act incorporated everything from being a sperm to his distaste for today’s politics. The unconventional Griffin smoked on stage, swore up a storm and turned Bill Cosby into a drug dealer and Martin Luther King Jr. into a pimp.

Known for his appearances in the “Deuce Bigalow” movies and “Undercover Brother,” Griffin got his start on Def Comedy Jam in the early 1990s. He has worked with everyone from Chris Rock to Bernie Mac to Dr. Dre.

In 2006 he played a father character in “Date Movie,” a similar role to Robert DeNiro’s in “Meet the Fockers.”

Griffin’s successes, vulgarity and more appealing looks may have given him the slight edge over the King of Porn. Or perhaps it was the loudmouth comic’s admiration of the ladies at the university that jolted him to the No. 1 spot.

“They got it goin’ on,” he said in an interview before the September performance. “There must be a lot of happy dicks here.”
