Player of the Week: Jordine Kimbrel

Senior sprinter Jordine Kimbrel excelled at the George Mason Spring Classic Saturday in Fairfax, Va., winning the 200-meter dash and placing second in the 100-meter dash.

The Northeastern News Player of the Week contends it is important for the team to get a fast start in their first Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) season.

“We’re all really excited; the CAA is completely different than the America East,” Kimbrel said after the meet. “We have something to prove because we’re from the north and running against all these southern schools, but we’re going to go down there and win.”

And win they did, with Kimbrel as the highlight of a victorious Husky weekend. The team also won the 1,500-meter and 100-meter hurdles, as well as the pole vault.

“The meet is very important for my team,” Kimbrel said. “My teammates push me to do better and I push them. It’s a give and take relationship, and in the end we all win.”

Kimbrel has been pushing herself in practice, working hard to make the 200-meter a strong point on her impressive track resum
