Men’s and Women’s Hockey: Four Huskies among Distinguished Scholars

The Huskies lead all of Hockey East.

No, there hasn’t been a miracle. The hockey gods haven’t reviewed the 33-game season and decided the Huskies deserved better than eight wins. No, they lead Hockey East in academics.

While the women’s hockey team finished seventh in Hockey East for the 2005-06 season, they had 11 players named to the Hockey East All-Academic team. Four were named to the Distinguished Scholars and one to the Hockey East Academic All-Star team. Northeastern and newcomer to Hockey East, Vermont, tied with 11 players on the All-Academic team.

Junior forward Amy Goodney is Northeastern’s Academic All-Star, the player with the top GPA at her position. The co-captain scored three goals and added six assists before suffering a season-ending injury against Yale Jan. 7.

Four seniors were named Distinguished Scholars for being named to the All-Academic team for all four seasons in Hockey East. Goalie Katy Augustyn, forward Kathy Sand, and defenders Chrissy Sands and Lindsay Snider have been excellent students as well as athletes.

Junior forward Ashley Bielawski was named to the All-Academic team for the second year. Freshmen forwards Ali Bielawski, Colleen Sanborn and Cassie Sperry and defenders Brenna Frost and Courtney O’Connor round out the Huskies on the All-Academic team.

The men’s hockey team also had players named to the All-Academic team. Seven Huskies were honored for the 2005-06 season including three-time honoree junior forward Aaron Moore and two-time honoree junior goalie Adam Geragosian.

Geragosian was the Huskies’ primary goalie this season, posting a a 3-14-6 record with a 3.24 goals against average and a .902 save-percentage over 1389:05 of work.

Also on the All-Academic team for the Huskies were junior forward Bryan Esner, freshman defenseman Denis Chisholm, freshman forwards Ryan Clauson and Rob Rassey and freshman goalie Jake Thaler.
