Senior draws local bars to sponsor softball league

For some, it may seem like the perfect fusion of summer activities, but for senior Ashley Adamczyk, starting “Bar League Softball” was her opportunity to gain experience in marketing.

“I couldn’t just walk up to a bar and say, ‘Could I have this job?'” she said, “so I thought I would come up with some kind of promotion that would only be promoted through me.”

Now in its second year, the league will host five to six teams of about 20 players each when its season kicks off Friday.

The groups are sponsored by several local bars, including Conor Larkin’s, Jillian’s Boston and Our House East. Their uniform tops were donated by the Miller Brewing Co.

Despite her status as an art major, Adamczyk has been interested in a career in marketing for several years, a field she hopes to pursue long after the bases have cleared.

“I always heard people say, ‘Oh, you’ll never find a job in art,’ but they were very serious,” she said.

Adamczyk spent her first co-op rotation in the Athletic Department and her second working for a local communications firm, Adamczyk organized the softball league last spring as something for the community, and also for herself, she said.
