Newly appointed women’s basketball coach Daynia La-Force Mann announced the hiring of two assistant coaches May 26. Mann appointed Monge Codio Jr. and Vicki Wancel as assistant women’s basketball coaches.

Codio joins the Husky staff after two seasons as an assistant at Iona College in New Rochelle, N.Y. He specialized in recruitment and player development while at Iona.

Prior to his time in New Rochelle, he was the head coach at Concordia College in Bronxville, N.Y., for four seasons.

The Long Island University-Southampton Campus graduate also coached at Sacred Heart High School in West Hempstead, N.Y., and for the Long Island Lightning AAU team.

Wancel was formerly an assistant coach at the University of New Haven for two seasons, the second under Mann. Prior to her coaching career, she enjoyed a collegiate playing career for Marist College in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.

As a senior in the 2003-04 season, she helped the Red Foxes to their first-ever Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference regular season and tournament championships and a trip to the NCAA Division I Tournament.
