Player of the Week: Ashley Reeves

With her senior season underway, Ashley Reeves had yet another strong performance for the volleyball team last weekend.

The Northeastern News Player of the Week helped improve the Huskies’ record to 6-7 overall (3-2 CAA). She hit for a match-high .591 attack percentage in the loss to Delaware and also hit .344 and .474 in the Huskies’ two wins over Towson and Maine, respectively.

With 13 kills each against Delaware and Towson and 11 against Maine, Reeves exemplified the consistency she preaches as co-captain.

“It’s nice to have people on the team you can always count on in game situations,” Reeves said. “Be consistent, that’s my goal as a captain.”

Reeves finished the 2005 season leading the team with 99 blocks. She said she looks forward to leaving the Huskies with a winning season. Reeves said she hopes her season as a leader will influence younger players.

The junior never redshirted and will finish up her career with the team at the end of this season, and said she is looking forward to being a normal student, knowing her time with the team was the best it could be.

Reeves said she constantly forgets it is her last year with the team, only becoming aware of it at times because she feels like she is the best she has ever been.

With an 11-year relationship with volleyball drawing to a close, Reeves said she is enjoying her time with the team and on the court. Although sad to part with what has been a large part of her life, she said she is anxious to finish up her time at Northeastern.

“I’ve had a great four years,” Reeves said.
