Huskies just can’t finish

A 2-1 loss to Old Dominion Monday night in the Colonial Athletic Association CAA Quarterfinals ended the women’s soccer team’s season.

Fifth-seeded NU (9-6-4, 5-4-3) began the game on its heels, amassing only one shot on goal to its opponents’ nine in the first half. Just 10 minutes in, the No. 4 seed Monarchs’ (16-4, 8-4) Shavon Knight put her club ahead.

“We came out very tentative in the first half,” said head coach Ed Matz. “I don’t know why. We didn’t play up to our potential in the first half. A missed trap at midfield led to their goal. We were almost nervous, we almost played not to lose in the first half.”

The Monarchs extended their lead to 2-0 just 43 seconds into the second half when Katie Watson scored her 13th goal of the season.

“I was pretty encouraged going into halftime because we didn’t play all that well in the first half,” Matz said. “The quality of [the Monarchs’] shots were not very good. We had a very good talk
