Sophomore running for N.H. State House seat

Correction: A previous version of this story misidentified the Worcester Polytechnic Institute student running for a House seat.

If you want to get together with sophomore political science major Jeff Fontas on the weekends these days, you’ll have to work around his campaign activities.

A native of Nashua, N.H., Fontas, 19, is running for a two-year seat in the New Hampshire State House. If he wins, he will represent the people around whom he grew up. In technical terms, that’s Nashua’s 6th ward and Hillsborough County’s 24th district.

On the campaign trail, Fontas says he’s most frequently asked why he’s running. After all, he is still in college.

“It’s really accessible, and it’s relatively cheap to run,” Fontas said. But more than that, he wants to develop himself career-wise.
