Men’s Track ‘ Field: NU successful at Snowflake Classic

By Adam Riglian

The men’s track ‘ field team had its most successful meet of the spring season, taking home seven events at the Snowflake Classic at Tufts University.

The Huskies were paced yet again by their strong field events, garnering four victories and two-second place finishes away from the track.

Sophomore Nate Hunter eked out a win in the shot put over senior teammate Semiu Alli by five and 3/4 inches with a toss of 54 feet.

Hunter also took second in the discus with a throw of 149 feet, one inch.

Freshman Adrian Li continued his success in the high jump, winning the event with a leap of six feet, five inches, besting Roger Williams jumper Jack Fuller on a judge’s decision.

Fellow freshman and Northeastern record-holder Jordan Thull cruised in the pole vault, taking the event with a height of 16 feet, 3/4 inches.

Thull’s vault soared over the competition, with the next closest competitor only reaching 14 feet, 2 and 3/4 inches.

The most devastating margin of victory was produced by junior thrower Bamidele Faboyede. He obliterated the competition in the hammer throw with a toss of 193 feet, six inches, nearly 30 feet farther than the runner-up.

Back on the track, junior Jonathan Watkins carried over last week’s success, winning the 200-meter in 22.23 seconds.

Senior Conrad Dalton turned in another strong performance in the quarter-mile, taking the event in 48.8 seconds.

Junior distance runner Tom Brown shifted down to the 800-meter and it worked for him. Brown ran 2:00.99, good enough for third place. In the 1500, not a traditionally strong event for the Huskies, sophomore Brian Kennedy came out of nowhere to take fourth place at 4:08.62.

Hurdler and decathlete junior Jack Sherman made his comeback to the track after missing over a month after an emergency appendectomy.

Sherman ran in the 110 -meter hurdles, finishing 12th in 16.47.

The countdown is down to three weeks until conference championships, giving NU two more chances to qualify for the meet.
