Commentary: RSA officer advises students to attend events

Northeastern’s Resident Student Association (RSA) has been working hard at planning an amazing month for February. As a second-year member of RSA’s general council and the public relations officer of the organization’s programming committee, I am personally excited to be a part of so many events. Every year, RSA expands and improves its annual events. Snowball and Sex Week are two events that students all around campus have come to anticipate.
Snowball is a 1,200-person semi-formal occasion co-sponsored by the Student Alumni Association. It will take place Feb. 7 at the Boston Marriott Copley Place. Everyone, including myself, had a blast at last year’s event. The food was delicious (especially the dessert) and the DJ created a prevalent mix of music that suited most of the guests’ tastes. By the end of the night, I was already looking forward to the next year’s Snowball. Tickets are now on sale and can be purchased through the ‘NUPay’ icon found on the myNEU portal. They are $30 each (NU+1) but hurry ‘- based on the popularity of the past couple years, the event is sure to be sold out soon.
Sex Week has quickly become another one of RSA’s popular annual events. The week will begin Sunday, Feb. 22. The hot theme chosen for 2009 is ‘The Seven Deadly Sins.’ We are currently accepting submissions for articles to be printed in the magazine that are either relating to or opposing the theme. Articles unrelated to the theme will also be considered. They can be submitted in the form of stories, poems, lists and drawings, and may be sent to [email protected] or dropped off in the metal box outside the RSA Office in 128 Stetson West. The articles can be whatever you like ‘- funny or serious, informative or uncommunicative. Any article we receive may be seen in the 2009 Sex Week Magazine and viewed by a large majority of the people on campus. Of course, the articles can be printed anonymously if you prefer. As a model in last year’s ‘Welcome to the Jungle’ version of the Sex Week magazine, I am pleased with the creative and artistic result and look forward to this year’s edition. The events that will take place throughout the week will be announced at a later date.
RSA is constantly growing and expanding due to the immense’ ‘ ‘ participation and interest of the residents. My personal involvement within the organization has truly been an adventure as well as a learning experience. I encourage all interested to take advantage of these awesome events, as they have become some of my most memorable experiences here at Northeastern.
