Men’s and Women’s Track: Track effort solid in Beantown

By Greg McGowan, News Correspondent

The men’s track and field team came home victorious from the Boston Indoor Reebok Games at the Reggie Lewis Center Friday. The Huskies earned a commanding 118 points to defeat the competition, which included runner-up Massachusetts.
Head coach Sherman Hart credited a strong showing in the field events during the meet as a reason for the team’s success.
All five of Northeastern’s first place finishes came in the field, including two by junior Adrian Li in the high jump (2.03 meters) and in the long jump (6.84 meters).
‘I think that they had a really good day,’ Hart said.
Sophomore Brian Racca (triple jump),’ junior Nate Hunter (shot put) and senior Bamidele Faboyede (weight throw) contributed to the success by finishing first in their events. The team has been able to climb in the standings at each meet so far this season.
The women’s track and field team also competed this weekend and posted a third place finish at the indoor games, eclipsed by South Florida and first place Boston College.
Junior Consandria Walker was a standout performer for the Huskies as she won the 55-meter dash in both the preliminary (7.17) and final round (7.18) along with the long jump (5.73 meters). Freshman Sarah Trotman ran the 200-meter dash in 25.4 seconds to place first.
‘She came into her own yesterday,’ Hart said of Trotman, adding that he felt she stopped being a freshman and began showing signs of solid experience.
Sophomores Porshe Giddings and Seri Gordon, and juniors Celeste Holder and Angelique Marcus took second place in the 4×400-meter relay with a time of 3:56.44.
The team has been hampered by some injuries lately but looks to have its lineup back at full strength soon, Hart said.
Hart said he was pleased with the performance of both teams and hopes to see the Huskies continue this success next Saturday at the Battle of Beantown in Allston, where the meet will start at noon.
