Athletics Department unveils new promotions

After executing a string of successful marketing promotions for the men’s hockey team, the Athletics Department is turning its attention toward drawing more fans to men’s basketball games.
‘ ‘ ‘ ‘It’s pretty clear that if the team continues to play like this that the product itself will draw more fans and more students,’ said George Gardner, associate athletics director of external affairs. ‘But we are trying some supplementary stuff to try and draw more traffic.’
‘ ‘ ‘ Gardner said that when students go to pick up their hockey tickets ahead of time, they will be given a men’s basketball ticket as well. The Athletics Department has also started a poster campaign, putting up posters around campus focusing on two players each week to promote the upcoming game.’ ‘ ‘
‘ ‘ ‘ Once students are at the game, they will have a chance to compete in a Rock Band and Guitar Hero contest at halftime. This week’s contestant will play against head football coach Rocky Hager at Saturday’s game versus Delaware. The audio will be piped over the loud speakers and the crowd will choose the winner. Gardner said this promotion will continue, with students competing against each other at future games.
‘ ‘ ‘ The Athletics Department will also announce information at sporting events about other teams’ games in an effort to cross promote games.
‘ ‘ Gardner says he hopes the successful’ promotions and attendance for men’s hockey will carry to other sports.
‘ ‘ ‘ ‘The hockey stuff has really been a lot of momentum that’s been self built,’ he said. ‘We’re really trying to clone a lot of stuff from men’s hockey and apply it to other teams.’

He went 2-for-5′ with four RBI in the Padres’ 16-7 win over the Colorado Rockies on August 10, including slamming his first home run off Matt Herges in the sixth inning of that game.
