Letter to the Editor: Students require a reminder about registration

This past week was the start of a time of year most students dread:’ registering for summer classes. This process is usually a painful one, to say the least. The registrar page is not user-friendly in any way. Even now, as I am on my last co-op, finding the classes I need to take is an awful process.
I am an engineering student and they have managed to make it more difficult than I ever knew possible to find the class and division schedules. Something that is accessed regularly by students should be out in the open; in fact, it should even have flashing lights.
Being in my final year and a half at Northeastern did allow me to register on the first day for classes, which made it surprisingly easy to get into the classes I wanted for the summer. It took me literally 30 seconds to enter the course keys I needed, which made me happy.
Despite the positive experience with registering for classes, my one problem is, how was I supposed to know I had to register? It baffles me that I get three to five e-mails each week from various offices at Northeastern, but when a major event like registering for classes approaches, there is nothing in my inbox. I get a text message, call and e-mail about a snowstorm or even the possibility of snow; I get two e-mails each week about the statuses of Northeastern sports teams; and I get e-mails from random people from Co-Op Connections telling me about ‘Mega’ career fairs.
But when it comes to the reason we are at this school, nothing is sent. Oh, and to make it better, we do receive e-mails about ‘I am here’ registration, but not for class registration.
Everyone I talk to has had the same reaction, ‘I didn’t even know that we had to register for classes!’ A simple e-mail, with even a one-day notice, would go a long way to make this process much better.
