Springfest ticket sales delayed

By By Eric Allen, News Staff

Thinking about buying tickets tonight for the Springfest concert? Think again.
Tickets for the show, co-headlined by rock bands Guster and Jimmy Eat World, will not be on sale at 7 p.m. tonight as previously planned, but will be sold on an undisclosed later date, said Nani Stoick, Springfest concert chair. The sale date has been delayed because of the Council of University Programs’ (CUP) initiative to revamp the ticket purchasing service through the myNEU portal.
‘The date is being pushed back because the IT (Information Technology) team has been doing tests on everything,’ Stoick said. ‘They want to make sure it’s right before the tickets go on sale.’
The additional tests are in direct response to the problems students encountered trying to buy tickets for the Oct. 17 Jon Stewart show at Matthews Arena.
Sophomore business administration major Melissa Parker said she tried to buy tickets for Stewart’s stand-up act but was unable to.
‘The website froze,’ she said. ‘So I tried a half hour later and the website shut down. I tried twice and didn’t get tickets.’
Stoick said the method of buying tickets will be the same as before, only the website should be able to handle more traffic.
Grant Eastman, a middler engineering major, said he has never had trouble buying tickets through myNEU because his friends usually purchase the tickets for him. He has, however, heard about technical problems.
‘The server is just so busy,’ he said.
He wouldn’t mind waiting a few days to purchase tickets for the concert as long as they go on sale before Springfest begins, he said, laughing.
Stoick respectfully asked students to wait a few more days for tickets, but would not disclose the date they will go on sale yet.
‘I’ve been assured [the website] will run smoothly,’ she said. ‘The last thing we want is for the site to crash.’
