Letter to the Editor: Students should value NU athletic experience

So this is it.
In less than a month, I will be walking down the aisle, officially a graduate with a degree in journalism, for whatever that is worth these days.
Much of my time at Northeastern has been spent slaving away to cover the best and worst of Husky sports. Throughout the years, my byline has been attached to everything, from an article on the Matthews Arena renovations to a recap of the baseball team’s spring Florida trip.
So it’s no surprise that some of my last words in this paper are about Husky sports.
Growing up in Connecticut, I certainly knew about the allure of college sports, but I had no clue they would play such a big part in my experience at Northeastern. A school’s sports program wasn’t necessarily at the top of my list when choosing a school. Although, on my tour of Boston University (hey, I was young and stupid), my dad and I were the only ones in our tour group who knew what the Beanpot was.
Unfortunately, that’s become a dirty word on Huntington Avenue, but that didn’t dimmer the thrill of getting to sit in the TD Banknorth Garden press box, twice, during my four years here. Also thrilling was the chance to travel to Fort Myers this spring break and watch the Huskies take on my beloved Red Sox.
This is quickly turning into a rambling highlight reel of my sports memories at Northeastern. I guess what I’m trying to say is that no matter what I cover in my career, be it Super Bowls, World Series or whatever, I’ll never forget what I got to see and write about here at Northeastern.
So for those of you still around, enjoy your Husky sports while you can. It’s a great chance to be a part of something truly special. And hey, while you’re at it, buy a newspaper or two. It would really help me out.
