Men

By Patrick McHugh, News Staff

The men’s basketball team will be spending Christmas in the land of aloha.
The team announced May 27 that it will be participating in the first ever Diamond Head Classic in Honolulu December 22, 23, and 25, hosted by the University of Hawaii at Manoa.
The three-day tournament will include eight teams and 12 games with the championship played December 25. Joining NU and Hawaii will be the College of Charleston, Saint Mary’s, Southern Methodist University(SMU), the University of Nevada-Las Vegas (UNLV), Southern California, and Western Michigan.
This will be the second time Northeastern plays a tournament in Hawaii. In 1990 the Huskies participated in the Maui Invitational, losing to Indiana, beating Loyola Marymount, and losing to Toledo.
Following the Diamond Head Classic the Huskies will head to Santa Clara, Calif. for the Cable Car Classic Dec. 29 and 30. The remainder of the 2009-10 schedule will be announced at a later date.
Northeastern is coming off a 19-13 season and a third-place regular season finish in conference. NU picked up its first postseason win in 25 years thanks to a 64-62 victory at Wyoming March 17.
