Northeastern Crime Log

Crime Log entries are selected from Northeaster’s Division of Public Safety reports.

Tuesday May 19

3:30 p.m. A student reported he locked his red bike to the fence near Shillman Hall at 1:30 p.m. When he returned at 3 p.m., the bike was missing and only the chain was left behind.

5:30 p.m.

A Northeastern University Department of Public Safety (NUPD) officer came upon a 30 year-old man, who has no affiliation with Northeastern, smoking marijuana in the alley behind Smith Hall. The marijuana, which was less than an ounce, was disposed of and the man was issued a trespass warning.

Friday May 22

2 p.m.

A man with no affiliation with Northeastern reported’ he rode his bike to campus and locked it with a cable lock around 9 a.m. in front of Dockser Hall. He returned at 1 p.m. to find both the bike and cable missing.

5 p.m.

People in Snell Library reported seeing a man with a large knife in a holder under his belt. NUPD question him and discovered he was wanted by the Boston Police Department (BPD) for outstanding warrants related to larceny and identity theft. NUPD arrested 24 year-old Adam Nezbeth of Boston.

Saturday May 23

1 a.m.

A student called to report a college-aged female walking on St. Stephen Street’ was repeatedly stumbling and falling. An officer located her on the corner of Gainsborough Street. She was identified as a 23 year-old student and was taken by ambulance to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. She will be’ reported to the Office of Student Conduct and Conflict Resolution (OSCCR).

2 p.m.

The food service manager at Stetson West dining hall’ reported he had seen a student packing food into personal containers and trying to leave with them.’ The student had been told on two previous occasions that he was not allowed to do that.’ He will be’ reported’ to OSCCR.

7:30 pm A student reported that he had left a book in the first floor lounge of West Village’ A for 15 minutes. When he came back the book was missing.

Monday May 25

10 a.m.

A student reported she had been receiving large numbers of unwanted text messages from her recent ex-boyfriend, who lives in New Hampshire and is not a student. She told police’ the messages had become frequent suggested he may be considering hurting himself. NUPD contacted police in his hometown. The town police visited’ the ex-boyfriend’s home and spoke to his’ parents.’ He is a veteran who has recently returned from Iraq and is currently in counseling.

Wednesday May 27

4 p.m.

A staff member on the fourth floor of Hayden Hall reported an employee’s backpack was missing from an office that had been left unlocked and unattended for 30 minutes.’ The bag contained books and personal papers.

4:30 p.m.

A student reported’ her flash drive had been stolen the previous evening from her unattended laptop in InfoCommons.

4:30 p.m.

A student reported his bike had been stolen around noon the previous day from Centennial Commons. He had locked it with a cable lock around 11:30 a.m.

Saturday May 30

12:30 a.m.

An anonymous caller reported a loud party in an apartment on the second floor of Douglass Park.’ When the officer arrived more than 20 people were leaving the apartment and nobody claimed to live there.’ After everyone left, the apartment was empty except for three full cases of beer, an empty beer ball and a bottle each of vodka and rum.’ Officers poured out’ ‘ the alcohol and called the property manager to find a resident who could come and lock the apartment.’ One of the residents, a 20-year-old Northeastern student, came into the apartment. He claimed he was just arriving home and had not been at the party earlier.’ The other resident of the privately leased apartment is a 19-year-old student.’ Both will be’ reported’ to OSCCR.

Sunday May 31

12:30 am

BPD called NUPD to assist them at 168 North Hampton St., where they had responded to complaints of a loud party. They discovered alcohol and underaged students. The three residents were one 19 and two 20 year-old NU students. They will be’ reported’ to OSCCR and BPD will summons them for underage drinking.

2:30 p.m.

A person with no NU affiliation reported his handmade bike missing after leaving it locked up outside of White Hall for about a week.’ When he remembered that he had left it there, all that remained’ were the frame and one wheel.’ He suspects’ a former friend is responsible because of a similar incident that occurred six months ago.
