Women

By Patrick McHugh, News Staff

Coming off its finest season in school history, the women’s soccer team now knows which opponents lie ahead.
The Huskies released their 2009 schedule May 28 and will be looking to improve on a 2008 season that included the team’s first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance and win. The team finished the regular season with a record of 13-9-2 and earned the sixth seed in the conference tournament. The squad pulled three upsets and was able to win the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) tournament and earn a berth to the NCAA tournament, where NU defeated Harvard 4-2 in penalty kicks in the first round Nov. 14. The team lost to Boston College 4-0 Nov. 16.
Northeastern opens against Longwood Aug. 28 and plays Cincinnati Aug. 30. Both games are home at Parsons Field. Then the squad will head to Athens, Ga., for the Nike Invitational. NU faces Clemson September 4 and Georgia September 6.
Following three games against America East teams New Hampshire, Boston University and Maine, the Huskies will begin their CAA slate at Drexel September 24. The season’s final three games will be at home, with the season finale versus Hofstra on Halloween. The CAA Tournament begins November 4.
