Glessner, who had never stroked before, was asked to stroke for the team after teammate Susan Francia was forced to sit out because of an illness. The United States finished the race with a time of 6:13.18. Romania won the race with a time of 6:10.76 and the Netherlands finished third with a time of 6:13.49.
