By Jason Mastrodonato, News Correspondent

The Northeastern men’s track and field team collected 16 top-10 finishes in the first Jay Carisella Track & Field Invitational at the Reggie Lewis Center in Roxbury Dec. 5.
The event, formerly named the Husky Winter Carnival, was rededicated Saturday to Jay Carisella, a former Northeastern track star who died in a single-car accident in New Orleans Dec. 23, 2007.
Senior captain Nate Hunter earned the shot-put title with a toss of 18.19m, an NCAA provisional-qualifying performance. Senior co-captain Jonathan Hall earned a second-place finish in the 500-meter dash and qualified for the Intercollegiate Association of Amateur Athletes of America Indoor Championship with a time of 1:04.90.
The women’s team found success, including wins in four events and 24 top-10 finishes.
Senior Brittany Moriarty ran the second fastest 5K in Northeastern history with a time of 17:39.72. She led the Huskies in every race during the 2008-09 cross country season.
Junior Althea Charles won the weight throw and qualified for the Eastern Conference Athletic Conference Championship with her 17.57m toss. Other victories included senior Cosandria Walker in the 55-meter dash and freshman Eryn Wheeler in the 800-meter.
The Huskies will compete next weekend at the Harvard Open, which starts on Saturday, Dec. 12 in Cambridge.
