The New England Indonesian Festival will return to Copley Square Saturday. Since its start in 2013, the festival has brought together thousands of New Englanders to celebrate and learn about Indonesian culture.

Every year, various collaborators organize the festival, including the Indonesian Community of New England Inc., Wonderful Indonesia and Persatuan Mahasiswa Indonesia Seluruh Amerika Serikat (PERMIAS), an all-student committee that brings together Indonesian college students in the United States.

Alvin Wahyudi, the director of marketing for the Massachusetts branch of PERMIAS, described the organization as a home away from home.

“The purpose of this event is to bring Indonesian culture to the U.S., especially to Indonesian students who may have lost their sense of culture or identity, and to just show people how amazing the culture really is,” Wahyudi said.

Indonesia is known for its incredibly diverse ecosystems, and this year the festival’s theme is Indonesian wildlife. The festival aims to not only highlight the beauty of Indonesia’s natural environment, but to also raise awareness about the importance of preserving it.

The festival will take place from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday in Copley Square.
